Ski Trip to Wintergreen

Posted by Pete Andrews on February 21, 2012 at 6:45 PM

Notes from Jim Hubbard:

Hope everyone had a great time skiing this weekend. 29 made the trip, with 27 skiers and lots of excitement and fun, with only one minor injury, a few bumps and bruises, and some minor sunburn. 11 of our boys who did not previously have the Snowsports merit badge were able to complete the same and will have them awarded at our next CoH. At the lodge we worked on some advancement requirements and individual merit badges, but the boys also had some time for fun and games. Thanks to all the parents who had their boys properly geared up and on time for the trip. I regret that I forgot to take a group picture, but may be we have a few others that the boys or Dad's took they could share.

Special thanks to all of the Dad's who drove and/or chaperoned and gave generously of their time, so that we could complete this event. Thanks to Dave McKinney for assisting with teaching. Also, we owe appreciation to Bill Reynolds and Geoff McLaughlin who not only looked after everyones gear, but also did a lot of ski coaching in their street shoes too - several boys would not have been able to complete their Snowsports MBs without the patience and time of these adult leaders...11 boys is a lot for a ski class, but with the huge assistance of all the Dad's we were able to get er' done...

A big thank you to Jim Hubbard for coordinating this very complicated event.  54 skis, 29 hats, 58 gloves, 54 boots, icy/slushy conditions, food for 29 hungry adults/scouts and ski lessons for 11 pre-teen/teenage boys.  Makes me tired just thinking about it.  Everyone always has a good time so start thinking about  volunteering to coordinate next years trip!
